US Foods Sr Mgr, Inbound Logistics in Rosemont, Illinois

The Sr. Manager, Inbound Logistics is responsible to lead the logistics development function for the maximization of inbound logistics freight income. Manages the planning and network optimization initiatives of the inbound logistics program across assigned Regions and Areas. Measures progress and success of the program against defined AOP targets, identifying opportunities, and implementing changes aimed at improving efficiency

Develop, implement and manage an efficient and effective freight planning/execution process, which ensures consistency across markets and carriers, while maximizing freight revenue and reducing transportation costs.

Develops and implements the appropriate analytics for measuring planner and specialist efficiency. Holds teams

accountable for performance against metrics; implements corrective actions as needed.

Support the development of innovative solutions for the conversion of vendor managed freight to USF managed freight, achieving optimal margin, and generating freight income opportunities across areas and markets.

Achieve freight income targets for the Areas and company. Includes income targets, minimizing cost, maximizing freight revenue, and increasing volume of managed cases through profitable conversions.

Manage KPI’s: Freight income, on-time delivery, managed case percentage, margins, utilization, productivity, service

performance, etc.

Ensure KPI’s are monitored as required and put in plans for corrective action where targeted results

are not being achieved.

Review results with USF corporate, region, area, and market level management.

Change Management: Act as the change agent for implementation of new logistics initiatives.

Work with stakeholders at region, area, and market levels to ensure smooth implementation of all logistics processes.

Prioritize team resources to be assigned to work with Area Operations to execute conversion of backhaul opportunities.

Review and monitor costing elements within the transportation expense template.

Communication: Collaborate with multiple parties in the company including Area Presidents, Regional/Area VPs, and Market Management Teams to achieve AOP targets. Work with corporate logistics staff on opportunity identification along with Carrier Development for capacity management and cost control.

Qualifications - External

Education/Training: 4 year degree required; focus in supply chain, logistics preferred.

Related Experience/Requirements: Minimum 5 years of purchasing, and/or related work in transportation field required. Prior experience working in a large fast paced foodservice purchasing and/or logistics environment strongly desired. Minimum 3 years’ prior experience supervising subordinates preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Experience in tactical project management and in-depth knowledge of logistics functions are required. Must be able to manage successful relationships with the operating markets. Requires infrequent (10%) overnight travel. Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word required. Knowledge of Microsoft Access preferred.
