Basic Purpose-

Description-

The Sr. Decision Scientist (Insights & Analytics) is responsible for supporting projects led by Manager Decision Sciences. Will leverage their knowledge of mathematical and statistical modeling techniques and innovative/quantitative analytical approaches to develop ‘test-and-learn’ approaches that align with the business’s larger objectives, initiate the drawing of conclusions, and propose actionable recommendations that answer business objectives. Will demonstrate competency in the ability to extract, manipulate, and synthesize data (e.g., attributes, transactions, behaviors, etc.), segmentation models, and other relevant information. The Sr. Decision Scientist role will consult with their manager to draw conclusions and make recommendations resulting in implementable strategies.

Analytics and Solution Development:

  • Supports methodology and implementation development to deliver analyses and recommendations that enable business functions to make informed decisions
  • Leverages business/analytical knowledge to participate in discussions with cross-functional teams to understand and collaborate on business objectives and influence solution strategies
  • Applies innovative and scientific/quantitative analytical approaches to draft conclusions and actionable recommendations that answer business objectives
  • Identifies and gathers the relevant and quality data sources required to fully answer and address the problem from the recommended strategy through testing or exploratory data analysis
  • Integrates and manipulates disparate data sources and determines the appropriate data hygiene techniques to apply
  • Thoroughly documents assumptions, methodology, validation, and testing
  • Understands and adopts emerging technology that can affect the application of scientific methodologies and/or quantitative analytical approaches to problem resolutions
  • Delivers analysis/findings in a manner that conveys understanding, garners support for recommendations, drives business decisions, and influences business strategy

Strategy, Process and Tools:

  • Identify and develop analytics to support and measure strategies for business partners
  • Influence and evangelize analytical methodologies to support business partners’ needs
  • Identify opportunities to standardize processes through analytics and tools
  • Support integration of strategies, analytics, processes, and tools

Travel

Available for occasional travel as business requires (less than 5% of time)

Qualifications-

Education / Training:

  • Graduate degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, or related quantitative field required

Related Experience:

  • 1-2 years of demonstrated successful experience in statistical or data science roles
  • 1-2 years of demonstrated successful statistical modeling experience in food distribution, retail, CPG, or related industries with large datasets and transactional data
  • Strong statistical background with hands-on and leadership experience in:

  • Generalized linear modeling techniques (e.g., linear regression, logistic regression)

  • Time series analysis
  • Mixed modeling
  • Clustering
  • Factor analysis
  • Decision tree (e.g., CHAID and CART)
  • Survival analysis
  • Design of experiments
  • Leveraging extremely large data sets, preferably in a cloud-based environment
  • Integrating and manipulating data from multiple sources
