The Margin & Competitive Pricing Analyst, USF Direct, utilizes category expertise and vendor specific knowledge to support pricing and margin management for USF Direct items. Exercises independent judgment and decision making to ensure that accurate and up to date item and costing information is loaded into the system, as well as identifying margin improvement opportunities. Responsible for supporting competitive pricing analytic, and understanding how USF Direct pricing compares to the competition.


Manage vendor cost update process, ensuring an accurate current cost for each item at each market on a timely basis

Calculate item-level shipping costs based on item specifics (weight, dimensions, temperature zone), ship speed, carrier, and ship points. Manage monthly updates to these costs across all USF Direct items.

Track accuracy of estimated item-level shipping costs against actual carrier charges, adjustm as needed to ensure margin goals achieved.

Responsible for ensuring any costing discrepancies between the received PO’s and the vendor invoice are resolved. Work with vendors to reconcile any discrepancies.

Set-up new item cost attributes to reflect accurate vendor, shipping, and fulfilment costs

Utilize analytics to identify product and category opportunities for pricing strategies. Complete ad-hoc pricing analysis as required

Perform competitive pricing analysis against a variety of competitors, identifying product and shipping cost differences. Develop proposed pricing strategies based off of this information.




Internal: USF Direct team, Merchandising, Sales, Finance, IT, Multiple stakeholders in the divisions

External: Brokers, Vendors, Parcel Carriers (FedEx, UPS)

Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics or similar, or equivalent food service industry work experience required.

Related Experience: Minimum three years pricing / costing analysis experience.

• Understanding the financial impact of cost / price decisions

• Manage stakeholder relationships while achieving performance objectives

• Proficiency required in the use of Microsoft Office especially Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as Microsoft Outlook.

Physical Requirements: Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position at a computer for long periods of time. Position is located in an office setting.
