Description

Reporting to the Director, Marketing, the position performs senior-level marketing functions that promote Metra ridership and ticket sales, expand targeted outreach strategies in both primary and secondary markets, and foster Metra's brand and favorable public image. The position establishes relationships and creates partnerships with public and private sector organizations; develops and manages marketing programs and services that meet transportation needs; and monitors and analyzes market conditions throughout the region to identify targeted outreach opportunities and initiatives. The position also prepares marketing and informational materials that effectively communicate agency and program goals; and participates in customer satisfaction and regional survey research programs. Serve as liaison to external audiences including: trade organizations, the tourism industry, colleges and universities, cultural institutions, building owners and management associations, major corporations, government agencies, and others to develop and oversee marketing strategies that promote Metra ridership, transit benefits, and service options. Create new targeted outreach strategies to increase ridership in both primary and secondary markets and develop and coordinate individual marketing programs in support of strategies. Maintain and expand upon a broad range of market development functions that impact product planning, service development, train and station operations, and partnerships and promotions. Research, identify, and establish partnerships with public and private sector agencies and manage marketing projects for programs and services that meet their clients and employees transportation needs and increase Metra ridership. Research and analyze business conditions and corporations throughout the region to identify marketing opportunities as well as key audiences of employers, property managers, etc. to create data bases for targeted outreach campaigns. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Candidates can expect salary offers that range from the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidate can consider their growth potential.

Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or related discipline, OR in lieu of degree, must have any combination of education and experience in Marketing, Public Relations or Communications that equals four (4) years.

  • In addition to #1 above, must have seven (7) years of progressively responsible Marketing or Communications related experience, preferably in transportation or similar public sector industry.

  • Considerable knowledge of principles and methods used in marketing and promoting programs and services including media outlets.

  • Considerable knowledge of public relations and community outreach principles, practices, and techniques.

  • Considerable knowledge of proper business English writing.

  • Considerable organization and analytical skills.

  • Considerable public relations and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent presentation and oral and written communication skills.

  • Intermediate skill using a Microsoft Office Suite and publication/design software.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with business owners, media representatives and the public.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

  • Must be willing to travel within Metra‚Äôs 6-county region.
