Description

Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.

The Metra Internship Program provides an opportunity for sophomores, college juniors, seniors, and graduate students to gain practical experience through on-the-job learning. Metra assigns students to projects related to their academic/educational field of study, which complements classroom instruction. The knowledge gained contributes to career development, while the experience provides insight on the wide variety of jobs in the transportation industry.

Intern will integrate classroom learning and gain hands-on experience in railroad, real estate, general corporate and litigation areas of law.

Reporting to the Law Department Division of Railroad, Real Estate and Grants, the intern will perform general legal work as assigned by the General Counsel or Assistant Deputy General Counsel. The intern will organize, review and/or draft railroad, real estate, and general corporate agreements; organize, review and/or draft ordinances; organize board packages; perform legal research; document filings and travel locally and/or offsite to the Recorder of Deeds, Cook County Clerk’s Office and other government offices.

Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration.
