Metra’s Law Department’s core mission is to provide legal guidance and support to the Board of Directors, the executive team and every other department in the organization. The department focuses on preventing legal issues at every feasible level, as well as defending the agency’s position if issues arise. The Law Department supports Metra’s transportation mission by guiding the agency through the myriad of restrictions and mandates of federal, state and local statutes, regulations, and ordinances. The Department is comprised of three basic divisions: General Corporate/Ethics, Litigation and Risk Management, and Real Estate and Grants.
Reporting directly to the Deputy General Counsel and Director, Litigation, the Attorney 1 will provide a variety of professional legal duties in courts and administrative agencies, including common law tort claims, FELA, FRSA, employment and civil rights claims, contract and lease disputes.
Candidates can expect salary offers that range from the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidate can consider their growth potential.
Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration.
Must possess a Juris Doctorate degree.
Must be admitted to the State Bar of Illinois.
Experience with computer based legal research.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, and organizational skills.
Able to work independently and manage multiple projects in a demanding environment.
Able to work with sensitive information while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Tort law liability, FELA claims and employment law experience a plus.
