Basic Purpose-

The Sr. Director, Warehouse is the strategic visionary and the leader for the Warehouse Function for U.S. Foods. The incumbent will provide guidance and counsel to the VP Distribution and his/her leadership team on all matters related to warehousing. The Sr Director, Warehouse must be versed at creating direction for the organization, driving alignment, and organizing the Warehouse Function to deliver the warehousing needs of the business. In addition, he/she must be forward-thinking, innovative, and lead the organization to cutting-edge solutions to support the delivery of strategic warehouse services across the enterprise.


As the Sr. Director, Warehouse Optimization you will...

  • Create the strategic business plan for the Warehouse Function that will include the integration of all aspects of warehouse operations
  • Identify key business opportunities to maximize performance and minimize costs
  • Evaluate new technology to ensure that our warehouse employees have the tools necessary to provide our customers with the highest level of service
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators to evaluate the performance of the Warehouse Function
  • Align with other functions on large scale projects to support the growth of the business
  • Set performance expectations for his/her team to drive to sustainable and predictable business results
  • Inspire the team through modeling our cultural imperatives
  • Possess both the business acumen and courage to make difficult and unpopular decisions and recommendations
  • Be versed at providing focused feedback and leading large-scale projects that have significant impact on the Company

Specific Warehouse Function responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the strategic vision of the warehouse initiatives by collaborating, communicating and building strong relationships with Regional partners and aligning stakeholder needs with business objectives to optimize opportunities for organizational growth and cost containment across multiple warehouse/distribution channels
  • Partnering with cross-functional teams to optimize the warehouse to create a cost-effective and high-performance warehousing model
  • Plan, allocate and manage financial budget by anticipating expenditures, accurately forecasting resource needs/costs and properly accounting for expenses to meet requirements and achieve fiscal responsibility
  • Evaluate warehouse projects including loading and selection system, WMS, rack design, warehouse productivity, slot optimization, engineering, manpower, and workflows
  • Develop process improvement plans and analyze potential enhancement impacts; update business process documentation, including work flows, Operations Foundations narratives, and procedures
  • Maintain/Develop “key performance” metrics to effectively manage and optimize warehouse spend
  • Develop and Mentor direct reports through communication, training and strong leadership
  • Maintain close contact with all material handling, trade association members and other political entities that benefit overall corporate objectives
  • Design and maintain the warehouse scorecard and metric’s to ensure business objectives are obtained by all warehouse operations
  • Direct the warehouse engineering and warehouse optimization functions
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within Warehouse by recruiting, retaining, and developing world-class diverse talent

Education/Training:Bachelors degree in business, supply chain, project management or similar experience required; Graduate degree preferred

Related Experience:Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in business leadership, with a focus on strategy development and implementation; experience working within a warehouse environment highly valued

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Must have a high level of leadership experience and be comfortable working in a highly matrixed, and large corporate structure. Must also be able to be a champion for and manage significant change initiatives and possess the aptitude to understand and process complex situations and data
